Owen was born happy and healthy on August 16, 2017. However, at a follow up appointment with his pediatrician, his bilirubin was high. He was immediately admitted to Atrium Health Levine Children's Beverly Knight Olson Children's Hospital for phototherapy, a treatment that uses a special light to treat jaundice in newborns. Thankfully, Owen quickly responded to treatment.

Owen's mom, Melissa, says, "From the smallest scares to the biggest, scariest diagnosis, each child matters here. Our baby was treated like he was their baby. They heard our fears and concerns and sat with us while we waited for test results. We were treated like family!"

Today, Owen competes in local barbeque competitions and even has his own barbeque rub and sauce line.
